We’re finding this whole mystery about the “Megan Fox as Wonder Woman” site at Wonder-Who.com (see our earlier post) to be quite fascinating. Why? Well, 1, because it gives us an excuse to study a nice photo of Megan Fox, even a Photoshopped one. And 2, because, while other sites are eagerly denouncing it as an obvious ‘Shop job, we’re rather impressed by what the hoaxsters have done right.
We’re planning to dissect the entire anatomy of the Wonder Woman hoax in a future post. But in the meantime, here are a couple of interesting things we’ve discovered while poking around Wonder-Who:
First, this is what you see as the final “reveal” page (the site is a progression of images, each one tearing away a little bit more of an original WW teaser poster):
If you view just the background image, however, here’s what you get:
Notice the grafitti that’s revealed behind the poster: “Is this for real?”
Now, here’s where it gets even more Pfunn … uh, fun (sorry, couldn’t resist). Look at what happens when the background image levels are lightened (quite clumsily, I’m afraid) in Photoshop:
Now check out the grafitti on the right. Look familiar? Was the Wonder-Who site merely built with leftover “Dark Knight” viral site images? What I’m wondering (Wondering?) about are the footprints or doggie graves or whatever they are in the lower right:
Have we seen those before? (We didn’t spend a lot of time on the “Dark Knight” viral sites.) In any case, it doesn’t matter. Regardless of who the hoaxsters are (the domain was registered through DomainsByProxy) or where they snagged their images, they did their little site up right. And if you’re going to hoax someone, the fun is in the details.
